It's true that the Effective Altruism movement encourages people to put aside emotion and compassion and focus on the most effective way to help. However, this can be misconstrued as an argument for apathy towards those in need. While it's important to consider the most effective way of helping, it's also important to recognize that sometimes the most effective way to help is to step away from the back-of-the-envelope calculations and simply show compassion. Wrong to think that the only way to do good is through the EA movement.
