It is true that the mediocrity principle has some basis in logic, and it is also true that if it were applied to conception, then it is likely that we would have been born as bacteria or some other type of organism. However, the mediocrity principle does not necessarily mean that we must be those organisms, nor does it mean that our existence is random. It is possible that there are other factors at play that are responsible for the assignment of identity and self, and to say that our existence is random completely disregards those factors. Additionally, it is possible that our human existence is due to more than just luck, and that it may be the result of choice or intention. It is wrong to assume that our identities are randomly assigned and that our existence is due to sheer luck.
