It is important to acknowledge the way that we have become desensitized to mass shootings and reflect on whether we should make ourselves care more about them. It is also important to recognize that different world issues may require different levels of attention and action. For example, with regard to animal cruelty, it is important to recognize that longer lives may not be better in terms of environmental impact. Similarly, with regard to global warming, although some may be privileged enough to not feel its effects immediately, that does not mean that it should not be taken seriously. Ultimately, it is important to make intentional decisions about the issues we consider to be worthy of our outrage, understanding that our gut reactions may not always be reliable. We must strive to be informed and compassionate towards all pressing issues.
