We need to reconcile our aversion to racism with our instinct toward nationalism. It is considered bad to discriminate against an applicant on skin color, yet it is considered ideal to avoid giving a job to someone overseas. It is considered immoral to let the American poor go sick or hungry, yet no politician vocally supports increases in foreign aid. It’s “Buy American!” and not, “Support the global poor!”

Explain those dichotomies to me.
