You ever see someone successful in a way that you want to be, and think to yourself, goddamn it, is there any chance that I’ll be that successful when I’m their age?
The next logical step in that thought process, at least for me, is to find them on LinkedIn or Wikipedia, reverse engineer the calendar year that they would have been my age, and see how their life, then, compares to mine, now.
Sure, sometimes, by my age, they had already made it as a member of the big leagues, and I’ll become disheartened. But more often than not, they had some desk job! They were in some supporting role! They were, like me, unknown and obscure!!
That gives me hope that maybe there’s still time to be great.
