The link between confidence and dishonesty is tenuous at best. Being confident does not necessarily mean misrepresenting one's level of comfort with something, as confidence can come from a place of genuine knowledge and experience. Furthermore, when being told to be confident, it does not have to be interpreted as an invitation to lie more convincingly, as being confident can be expressed through genuine honesty rather than theatrics. Confidence can be a display of truth and integrity.
