Whenever there is news related to science, astronomy, or really, research of any kind, the headline seems to always follow the format: “[Noun] is more [adjective] than previously thought.” As far as I can tell, scientists just start with some wildly inaccurate guesses—and God bless them, because those guesses are way better than whatever you or I could have come up with—that get slightly more accurate over time. Slight increases in accuracy are big deals in science; they get their own press releases.

How does news of such minuscule improvements in accuracy introduce itself to the world? Through a public humiliation of what had been previously thought.
