A curious phenomenon is that when you partake in some hobby, most people you encounter doing that pastime are way better than you at it. Think about it. At yoga class, everyone else sails through boat pose. At the tennis courts, everyone’s overhead smashes yours. At the poker table, you’re the royal fish.

Why? Well, people who do something more frequently are more commonly doing it. So, they make up a disproportionate fraction of the people doing that activity at any given time.

If practice makes perfect and practice involves showing up, then those who’ve shown up are more probably perfect.
