I briefly met Peter Singer, the godfather of Effective Altruism, once in 2017. My one question was if he thought an effective altruist could ever be the president of America. He laughed at me, and said, “No way. Look at who we have in office now.”

But I'm still not so sure. I think that the liberal analogue of Trump looks a lot like an EA and has a similar shot at breaking through the noise.

And I know just the candidate to fill that role: me.
